When
conducting paranormal investigations, the group director has the heavy
decision of the direction of a group's methods of investigation. With
SPIRITeam, we have blended the use of psychic investigation and the
scientific in order to create a balanced group of educated
investigators that share the common goal of finding Truth. However, as
a psychic, I can imagine the trepidation that a director may feel in
looking for that, "perfect," medium to join their group. For a
non-Sensitive person, interviewing a psychic medium for the job can
include the fear of offending and fear of choosing the perfect crazy
person! Sadly, the world of psychic phenomena seems to run very
closely with the world of the mentally unstable. For those of us who
are truly psychic, it is an every day battle of fighting against
stereotypes and those out there that give us a bad name.
So, how on earth does a non-Sensitive founder choose that perfect
person to balance out their group? Over the years of using my
abilities, I've met some amazingly talented as well as some amazingly
fraudulent people. So, here are a few tips for those looking to work
with Sensitives and four of the red flag personalities to look for
when interviewing for the position.
1. The Show Off
This is the person who, after they've met you for one minute, is
telling you, "I see dead people. They are everywhere." Every
legitimate psychic I have met has been anything but a show off; they
tend to be reserved, at least in regard to their abilities. To truly
have the Gift opens you to ridicule, fear, shame and doubt when you
begin. Once you are strong in your abilities, that strength transforms
to comfort, stability and protectiveness of yourself. No one will want
to purposely put themselves in a situation where they will be
ridiculed. So, most people with the Gift will not share as much until
they are confident that you will be supportive. Thus, if a person is
ranting about all the dead people around and seem to have no fear of
how that will affect the spirits or you, BEWARE.
2. The Fear Monger
You never, ever, EVER want this person on your team because they will
slowly eat away at your group until it falls apart. This is the
personality that sees everything as negative. If you interview someone
who talks lovingly about possession, how they've fought off demons
with their psychic sword or how they willingly let entities into their
bodies, watch yourself! We've learned that the majority of
investigations are either non paranormal activity or entities simply
needing help. The negative entity is a rare thing. Negativity and
drama will attract the negative, and this sort of person will attract
negativity because he or she is a beacon for it. A psychic should
never share information with a client that will scare them, whether
they believe it "true" or not. There is no benefit to this action and
we strongly fight against fear. This person uses fear to control and
manipulate and they will use it to scare clients, manipulate other
members, and/or even to manipulate you.
3. The Egotist
This is the medium that has to have all of the attention at all times.
A clue to this person is if they seem to talk more about themselves
and how they are affected rather than helping the spirit. This person
will negate anything that flies in the face of their convictions. They
will shoot down the opinions of other mediums or scientific data if it
works against their beliefs. This person is in it for attention they
crave, not to help people living or dead. Your perfect medium should
never behave in a manner that shows they feel they are “special" or
above other team members because they are Sensitive. Their importance
is equal to all other members and, if they seem to not think that is
the case, send them on their way.
4. The Absolutist
Absolute thinking, no matter what it is, is one of the most dangerous
things on the planet. When one thinks absolutely, they have no ability
to weigh other options, opinions, possibilities, and ideas. If you
meet a psychic who tells you things about their methods or impressions
that they insist are factual, they are not legitimate. There is not
one psychic person on the planet who can fully explain what they are
doing, how they are doing it and why. We simply don't know. We can
give our thoughts on what psychic ability is or what we think is on
the other side, but none of that makes it "fact" without evidence or
scientifically proven data to back it up. If a psychic is unwilling to
weigh natural and scientific explanations as much as their own
ability, then you are dealing with a very unbalanced investigator.
They are only using half of the pieces to put together the puzzle, and
that will lead you nowhere.
•
These are the four main
personalities of psychics from which you should steer clear. Of
course, you should also take the time to talk to them at length, on
several occasions, to look for any hints of mental or emotional
instability. I would never invite a psychic into a group after one
conversation because it could lead you into months of hell trying to
sort out how to get rid of them! Make certain they state to you their
goals. What do THEY want from your group? What are THEY willing to
give? If they don't reflect your own goals, it is better to pass on
them than to try to instill those standards later.
Most importantly, don't be intimidated. Psychic people are normal
everyday people that just have a talent you haven't as yet developed.
Just like I don't feel intimidated by someone who can do calculus (I'm
lucky if I can add), you shouldn't feel intimidated just because I've
developed my psychic abilities. There is a difference between talent
and ability. Not all people have psychic talent, but I believe all
people have psychic ability. Some have a natural talent, like a piano
prodigy. Others have to study the piano for years to play just as
well, but they CAN gain the ability with practice. I don't feel
psychic ability is any different; it can be natural or it can be
developed. So, when you interview your psychic candidates. get to the
point and don't be afraid. If you push for the answers and they are
legitimate, they will deliver and will be thrilled that you take them
seriously enough to ask the tough questions. Good luck striking the
happy medium!
