Psychic Defense

By Kristi Robinson, CPI SPIRITeam Member • September 2007

Lynn Robinson, InvestigatorWhen I first began my journey of developing my latent psychic abilities at 16 years old, I very quickly learned that one must learn psychic defense before ever exploring the realm of psychic phenomena. There have been experiences I have seen that have only reaffirmed the importance of this simple exercise and, given the investigations we've had of late, I thought an article assisting all of our investigators regarding this would be beneficial.

Of course, one who is new to the investigation field or a skeptic may scoff at the idea of psychic defense, feeling that there is no proof that an entity can get inside of a person's mind. I cannot stress strongly enough that this can...and does...happen. Just as it is important to wear appropriate clothes and to watch your step while carrying equipment, protecting your mind should be a requirement. Given that we are dealing with the unexplored and unexpected, we should take control of what we know we have control over.

Psychic defense can be initiated in many ways and should be according to your belief system. You can call on Jesus, Buddha, angels, the God and Goddess or any myriad of saints to defend and protect you. One effective method is to visualize white light around you like a protective egg shell and requesting your chosen patron to guard you throughout the investigation. This can be further supported by wearing a religious piece of jewelry or anything that supports your protection beliefs. Once the mental imagery has been used, many paths seal the request of protection by smudging with sage, Sweetgrass or incense. This can help because it pulls in the sense of smell for your protective experience. The human will is very strong so if you enter a dark space with the mindset that you are strong, nothing will be able to enter you. However, if you are a person with a great deal of personal drama, issues and weakness, you will be putting not only yourself but your team members in danger. Dark entities will try to corrupt the weakest link- the person with the weakest emotional and physical status. Why would they want to attack someone that would be a challenge? This is why it is crucial to have an investigative team that is emotionally, mentally and physically solid. One weak person can create havoc for all.

Another important aspect of psychic defense is to know your own limits. Never, ever, EVER invite an entity into you unless you have been educated on how to defend or cast out the entity. Possession is a very real thing and if you do not know how to always have the psychic upper hand, you should NOT dabble in psychic action. In investigations, sometimes I will invite an entity into me partially because I'm trying to get to their Core Purpose. However, as "out of it," as I may seem at times, I ALWAYS have the psychic upper hand and could cast it out if necessary. I like to push the limits and often lose the time passing by, but I never let an entity take me over or even take over my voice ( which they try to do). I never give them any control, only openness of myself to get them to show me what we need to know to get rid of them. Dark entities will shroud themselves as beings of light to lure you into a false sense of security. If you do not know the signs of a "fake" light being, again, do not dabble in psychic action. Opening one's self without a method of protection can lead to physical, emotional and mental breakdowns.

Finally, the importance of all of this can be seen in the long standing stigma of the Ouija board. How many of us have heard about someone's friend's cousin's sister being possessed by a Ouija board? The truth is, a Ouija board is simply a board, but people who do not use use protection have opened themselves to the board for years. The danger isn't the board; it is the people using it!! By making your mind wide open with a divination tool, you are allowing anything that wants to invade you to do so. In investigations, the situation is no different because entities know our intention and, thus, we are naturally open to them.... EVEN the skeptics are open!

Please, as a ritual for getting ready for an investigation, take a moment to protect yourself psychically. If you are willing to make the extra effort to put on your seatbelt when you drive, so should you take the extra time to ask for protection from Darkness.
