In paranormal investigation,
we, as investigators, are constantly looking for answers to the
Unexplained. As one of those curious minds, I try to sift through the
human spiritual and scientific sides of the answers available regarding
our Universe. I have, for several years, been studying the Superstring
Theory and, believe it or not, there is a connection between this
exciting theory regarding quantum mechanics and what we, as paranormal
investigators, do. I would like to share with you some of the basic
information of the theory and my hypothesis of relation to our work in
paranormal investigation.
Superstring Theory is an
attempt to explain all of the particles and fundamental forces of nature
in one theory by modeling them as vibrations of tiny, supersymmetric
strings. It is considered one of the most promising candidate theories
of quantum gravity.
The deepest problem in theoretical physics is harmonizing the theory of
general relativity, which describes gravity and applies to large-scale
structures (stars, galaxies, super clusters), with quantum mechanics,
which describes the other three fundamental forces acting on the atomic
scale. In other words, the Theory of Relativity and quantum mechanics do
not work together. Each works well at its own level but, once they are
used on a different size of scale, everything falls apart. Thus,
scientists have been trying to find the link between what happens at an
atomic level and what occurs on the largest level of the Universe.
"The fundamental particles of the universe that physicists have
identified—electrons, neutrinos, quarks, and so on—are the "letters" of
all matter. Just like their linguistic counterparts, they appear to have
no further internal substructure. String theory proclaims otherwise.
According to string theory, if we could examine these particles with
even greater precision—a precision many orders of magnitude beyond our
present technological capacity—we would find that each is not point like
but instead consists of a tiny, one-dimensional loop. Like an infinitely
thin rubber band, each particle contains a vibrating, oscillating,
dancing filament that physicists have named a string." (Greene)
Simply put, string theorists believe that at the core of all living
things, smaller than atoms, electrons, etc. are tiny vibrating strings
and that these strings are the true base essence of existence. This
would mean that all of existence is, truly, made of the same thing and
that the only thing that differentiates atoms that make, for example,
trees and people, are the level at which the strings vibrate. This is
exciting news for the spiritual world, as well, as this would verify the
long held belief, particularly in pagan religion, that we are made of
the stars and them, us. It would truly show that all of existence is
related.
A sizeable part of the physics and mathematics community is becoming
increasingly convinced that string theory may provide the answers. From
one principle—that everything at its most microscopic level consists of
combinations of vibrating strands—string theory provides a single
explanatory framework capable of encompassing all forces and all matter.
String theory proclaims, for instance, that the observed particle
properties—that is, the different masses and other properties of both
the fundamental particles and the force particles associated with the
four forces of nature (the strong and weak nuclear forces,
electromagnetism, and gravity)—are a reflection of the various ways in
which a string can vibrate. Just as the strings on a violin or on a
piano have resonant frequencies at which they prefer to vibrate—patterns
that our ears sense as various musical notes and their higher
harmonics—the same holds true for the loops of string theory. But rather
than producing musical notes, each of the preferred mass and force
charges are determined by the string's oscillatory pattern. The electron
is a string vibrating one way, the up-quark is a string vibrating
another way, and so on.
Far from being a collection of chaotic experimental facts, particle
properties in string theory are the manifestation of one and the same
physical feature: the resonant patterns of vibration—the music, so to
speak—of fundamental loops of string. The same idea applies to the
forces of nature as well. Force particles are also associated with
particular patterns of string vibration and hence everything, all matter
and all forces, is unified under the same rubric of microscopic string
oscillations—the "notes" that strings can play." (Greene)
One interesting point of the Super String Theory is that, in order for
it to mathematically work, far more than the four dimensions we know
must exist. There are differing equations stating how many dimensions
must exist, but they range from 8 to 26 different dimensions. This opens
a HUGE door in understanding, “ghosts." If existence truly relies on
vibration, could ghosts simply be people living on a different
vibrational level? When we die, do we leave this dimension for another
because our "vibration," has changed? In investigations, we are always
recording electromagnetic fields and this theory completely explains the
relationship of electromagnetics to existence as we know it.
The string theory is universal, from the tiniest particle to the
greatest mass of the Universe. What does this mean? Well, it implies
that, like there are tiny strings in atoms, there are giant strings of
existence in the Universe. One possibility it that these Superstrings of
the Universe vibrate next to each other as layers of existence, like
slices of bread on top of each other. Thus, paranormal activity could be
these vibrations banging into each other, crossing each other in
vibration. Very much like the universe inside the cat's collar charm in
Men In Black, we could be mere specks on a giant vibrational string of
existence.
With this said, it seems clear that there is a great deal going on in
the world around us that we simply do not have the ability to perceive.
Like a bat with poor eyesight, we can't perceive these dimensions
because we simply don't need to for our existence. It then poses this
question: is psychic ability the beginnings of an evolution toward
further perception beyond our known four dimensions?
I think as paranormal investigators, it is our responsibility to use
both human spiritual knowledge that has been passed down with our
ancestors and scientific knowledge to push the field forward. Beyond the
EVPs, video footage and medium readings, what do we do? What do we do to
push the field farther? We must look at the scientific possibilities
that are being offered by our most brilliant of scientists along with
our most learned spiritual paths. In my experience as a psychic and
student of shamanism for six years, I learned that science and
spirituality cross paths more often than not. Thus, it perplexes me that
those who subscribe solely to the religions of Man or the religion of
Science refuse to see the universal truths they share. The combination
of the two will lead us to a unified truth, and the Super String Theory
may, at last, give us the answers to the largest and smallest levels of
existence.
If you'd like to learn more about the Super String Theory, I suggest
reading, "The Elegant Universe," by Brian Greene, of which some of this
information was borrowed from. He is one of the leading string theory
physicists and is excellent at making the information understandable to
the average person. A must read for those who are seriously trying to
find answers to paranormal phenomena.
